Downtown Crystal Lake is easily accessible by automobile, bicycle, and public transportation. Once here, it is both easy and a pleasure to walk around and enjoy our beautiful and vibrant downtown district.
Driving Directions
From the north – Take Route 31 south to Route 176. Turn right (west) on Route 176 to Main Street. Turn left (south) onto Main Street to arrive in Downtown Crystal Lake.
From the south – From I-90 go north on Randall Road to Pyott Road. Turn left (north) on Pyott Road (this turns into Main Street). Take Main Street north (cross over Route 14) to arrive in Downtown Crystal Lake.
From the northwest suburbs – Follow Route 14 (Northwest Highway) to Crystal Lake. Turn right (north) on Main Street to arrive in Downtown Crystal Lake.
Once You’ve Arrived
There is a variety of parking options in Downtown Crystal Lake. Most street parking spaces have a 2-hour time limit. There are several 4-hour public parking lots. Commuter lots are free after 4PM and on weekends.
Bicycle
The McHenry County Conservation District’s Prairie Trail runs right through the heart of Downtown Crystal Lake. Click here for a map and information about the Prairie Trail.
Once You’ve Arrived
There are plenty of bike racks for you to secure your wheels and then walk around downtown.
Union Pacific/Metra Train
Downtown Crystal Lake is served by the Union Pacific/Metra Northwest Train Line which runs from Chicago to Harvard. Crystal Lake is a major stop on the line.
Once You’ve Arrived
The train depot is located in the heart of Downtown Crystal Lake. Once you get off the train, you are only a few steps away from great shopping, dining, and fun!
