Ownership of this building has always been connected to the Teckler Building (Heisler’s Bootery) at the corner of Williams & Brink. Even today, the water and sewer service for 53 Brink Street comes from the corner building.

In 1920, William Kegebian purchased the property, including the Teckler Building. An automobile garage was built at 53 Brink Street, and first appears on the 1921 Sanborn Fire Insurance map.

Ten years later, Kegebian enlarged the garage, adding a front brick addition. It is interesting to note, the brick has the same decorative diamond pattern as the side of the Teckler Building — again, maintaining the connection between the buildings.

With the brick addition completed, the building was leased to George Schauble, who sold Pontiac and Oakland automobiles from this location. Schauble’s business was quite successful, and by 1932 he was selling 250+ automobiles a year!

Today the space is home to On the Brink Salon.
