Built in the early 1900s, this building has been home to a bank, hat shop, jeweler, four different bakeries (Perfection, Perfect, Buhrmann’s and Jenson’s), two insurance agencies (Western and Scheper’s), a beauty salon, three needlework shops (This ‘n That, Needleworks and Sunflower Samplings), furniture store and now a coffee shop (Grounds Coffee, which opened in 2021).

In 1964, Rosina Hedrich opened Rosina’s Beauty Salon in this location, offering a complete line of beauty services with haircutting her specialty. Rosina was a graduate of the McHenry Beauty School and the Farrell Advanced Hair Styling School in Chicago.

A Romanian immigrant, Rosina’s broken English accent didn’t stop her from making lifelong friends with her clients. One would go to Rosina’s Beauty Salon to get an excellent perm, haircut and set, and to talk for hours and be entertained by her charming personality.
