The days are getting longer = it’s time to repot your indoor plants and we have everything you need!  

• Select a time slot and the number of plants you would like to repot. In order to assist all participants we’re limiting it to 4 plants per household.
• Bring your plants to the Soil & Spade Plant Shop in Downtown Crystal Lake – arrive any time within your two hour time slot.
• Select a new pot from our collection OR bring a new pot from home OR repot your plant into its existing pot – the choice is yours.
• We can assist you with the repotting or you can leave the plant with us while you visit one of the Downtown shops or restaurants and we’ll repot it for you.

Does my plant need a repotting? 

With few exceptions (very slow growers) most indoor plants will benefit from a repotting every 1-2 years. Repotting with fresh potting mix increases the vigor of the plant, eliminates the buildup of salts and helps prevent soil-borne diseases. Repotting can mean up sizing your plant to a new, slightly larger pot or root pruning and replanting into its original pot.  Here are some signs that your plant is ready for a repot:

• Circling roots or an abundance of roots growing out the bottom of the pot
• Overly dry, dull, depleted soil that does not absorb moisture when watered (the water just runs right out the bottom of the pot)
• Yellowing leaves, signs of root rot, soil with a foul odor or fungus gnats
• Lack of growth
• The plant is just too big and top heavy in its too-small pot

Cost to Participate: 

The cost is $5 per plant for small to medium plants (4-10″ pot) plus the cost of materials. Our plant experts will be on hand to blend a soil mix custom to your plant and your watering practices AND offer recommendations for pest care and plant nutrition.
