Johnny Appleseed Festival

Johnny Appleseed Festival
Pared to the Core for 2020

Activities for this year’s Johnny Appleseed Festival will be limited and modified this year in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Throughout the month of September, the ‘apple’ will be pared down to a few family-friendly activities and served in bite-sized pieces,” announced Brett Rainwater, president of the Downtown Crystal Lake board of directors. “Core activities such as the Apple Scavenger Hunt, Scarecrow Decorating, the Great Ball Race and other appealing events and activities will preserve the spirit of the festival for 2020.”

Downtown Crystal Lake Main Street has hosted the event as a sweet treat for the community since 1994.  The event typically features a Johnny Appleseed impersonator to share stories, history lessons and entertain visitors along with children’s games, music, food, craft fair, and more!

Plans for 2021 are to return to the full festival on September 25, 2021.

Apple Scavenger HuntSeptember 1st – 21st

This scavenger hunt is FREE and just-for-fun.  Hunt for the numbered red apples in the downtown district.  They will be displayed in business windows and viewable from the sidewalk.  Each apple will reveal a word for the puzzle.  Discover the secret message to win fun prizes.

Pick up your game card at Taste of Benedicts (35 N. Williams) or Marvin’s Toy Store (64A N. Williams) or click here to download: Scavenger Hunt Card 2020

Stay safe!  And don’t forget to have fun!

Scarecrow DecoratingSeptember 19th – 26th

Gather some old clothes, straw, burlap, or whatever…and plan to adopt a downtown lamp-post and decorate it with a scarecrow.  The scarecrows will be on display from September 19th to September 26th.  Entries will be judged and ribbons awarded.  Click here for additional information: Scarecrow Flier 2020
