Tawny and Tiffany are sisters with separate and complementary businesses in McHenry. Tawny runs Curated by Laney, which is a women’s clothing boutique, and Tiffany runs Freundly Designs, which is a spirit-wear and custom print apparel shop. They joined together to open a location in DTCL, in Brink Street Market. Roughly half of the shop houses Curated by Laney, and the other half is Freundly Designs… and the whole shop is a curated, friendly experience!

Q: Welcome to Downtown Crystal Lake! Tell us your favorite thing about your new DTCL location.

The small town community vibe (Tawny/Curated by Laney), and all the unique small business neighbors (Tiffany/Freundly Designs)!

Q: What’s your most popular offering, or what are you best known for among your customers?

Designs by Laney: I’m a contemporary women’s boutique store that sells clothes and accessories. My offerings include everyday pieces that are not only stylish and comfortable but versatile too.

Freundly Designs: We’re best known for our spirit-wear offerings and business logo apparel. Also the uniqueness of customers being able to come in store and pick out a blank top and select a graphic to have pressed right then and there.

Q: We know you don’t want to brag, but is there anything else people should know about what makes your business special?

We’re women-owned businesses, and we like to create a space where customers feel known, not just sold to. It is the kind of place where you remember their name, their kids, and the event they were shopping or ordering for.
