We asked Amy Zakoian about her shop and interior design studio, A-Z Interiors, which has been in business in Downtown Crystal Lake for about six years.

Q: What are some memories you have of opening A-Z Interiors?

In the beginning, it was a lot of fun planning the layout, choosing and then receiving the first inventory pieces, unpacking and setting up. Other memories include our first couple of store events: a grand opening party, and Ladies’ Nights, when we secured our first large design client.

Q: What is your favorite thing about having a business in Downtown Crystal Lake?

One of our favorite aspects of having the business is being a part of the community and adding to the diversity of shops and experiences. Downtown CL is a bustling, active area with a nice variety of businesses. We enjoy providing unique products to the community with a personal, customized experience. We enjoy spending time with our regular customers as well as meeting new ones.

Q: What’s a season you particularly enjoy in Crystal Lake?

The holiday season is always something we look forward to and enjoy. We have fun making the store as festive as possible.

Q: What’s your most popular offering, or what are you best known for among your customers?

Hometown candles and pillows; high-quality faux stems, greenery, florals; a great variety of unique gifts and home accessories; and custom upholstery and quality furniture.

Q: What are some of the meaningful reviews and comments you get from customers?

We frequently hear that we have a beautiful store and there’s always something new to see. And we love hearing about our design clients’ high satisfaction when their spaces come together and are completed.

Q: Describe someone who should check out A-Z Interiors for the first time.

Someone who has moved into a new home, or would like to update their existing one. Our designers can actually save a new homeowner or renovator money by avoiding costly mistakes, or simply make rooms and homes function better as well as feel and look according to the homeowner’s wishes. Our floor staff, too, can help with styling projects right in the store.

Also, someone who loves to decorate and is looking for unique home decor.

Most specifically, a realtor looking for a “welcome home” gift for their client.

Q: What are some final details you can share with us about what makes A-Z Ineriors special?

We source items you can’t find at the “big box” stores and provide a higher level of customer service and care. We offer customized, personalized gift options and complimentary gift wrapping. And our business is special in that we can create and procure products to suit every design aesthetic.
