Since 2018, The Green Read has served as the premier used bookstore in McHenry County, committed to providing high-quality, gently used books to the community. The Green Read is a cozy spot to browse for your next favorite book or the perfect gift. We carry a wide variety of new puzzles as well as hand-crafted and sustainable gift and stationery products.

Buy a great book and do good for the environment at the same time! The Green Read is a project of the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County and is staffed by volunteers. Proceeds support the Defenders’ environmental initiatives including watershed protection, plastic and food waste reduction, recycling, clean energy, and prairie restoration.
